Where’s the one place you feel most comfortable? If the answer is “at home”, that’s exactly what makes an at-home engagement session SO special.
Here’s why I love at-home engagement sessions: 1. Being in the privacy of your own home creates a relaxed environment for natural moments to unfold. 2. You’ll be left with candid photos in a place that’s so pivotal to these early stages of your relationship. Picture showing your kids these photos one day and saying “these were in our first apartment!”
Alyssa & Zeke’s Boston engagement session encapsulates everything an at-home session should be: meaningful, unique, intimate, and authentic. As a Boston documentary-style photographer, those words are music to my ears.
Choosing an Engagement Photo Location that is Unique to You
Fun fact: Alyssa & Zeke were friends since childhood and moved into their apartment together strictly as roommates at the start of COVID. There weren’t a ton of amazing things that came out of quarantining, but being cooped up together definitely worked to their advantage because they realized there was something more than a friendship.
Not only is this charming apartment meaningful since it’s their first home together, but without it who knows if they would be where they are now — engaged and planning their wedding! This made doing their engagement photos in this space even more special.
Candid Engagement Photos At Arnold Arboretum
Alyssa & Zeke wanted intentional engagement photos that documented the meaningful activities they do together.
First, we started their spring engagement session walking around Harvard University’s Arnold Arboretum. Lucky for them, the arboretum is right across the street from their apartment! Arnold Arboretum is one of the most beautiful spots in the city and a perfect Boston engagement photo location. We chatted about their wedding plans, favorite weekend activities, and Zeke’s unbelievable cooking skills while snapping fun-loving photos among the flowering trees.
Documentary-Style Engagement Photos at Home
Next, we headed to their apartment to document the simple pleasures of their day-to-day life: hanging on their front porch with a glass of wine in the sunshine, listening to records, and snuggling with their pup on the couch. <3 I’m so obsessed with their apartment and how much sunlight pours through the windows!! It was the perfect April evening in the city and a night I will cherish forever. I cannot wait to celebrate with them at their wedding this summer!!
